SEEDS High School Project
|
Throughout the 2006-2007 school year, the Student’s Environmental Education Development (SEED) project successfully engaged ten Ontario high schools in water and soil quality monitoring workshops within the communities of Peterborough, Northumberland and Clarington. Under the guidance of Green Communities Canada, Peterborough Green Up and Trent University, the workshops focused primarily on field research of local eco-systems within walking distance from each participating high school. All workshops were modeled to fit the high school curriculum and tailored to various abilities and unique attributes of the participating students. |

SEED also connected high school students and post-secondary researchers in science and technology. Most workshop facilitators consisted of recent Trent University graduates who presented environmental monitoring techniques both through in-class lectures and in the field. SEED provided youth with an out-of-classroom experience whereby students were able to engage with environmental monitoring equipment to test the soil and water quality within their localities as well as understand the results and impacts of their testing |
